23: How weird Is That?
The spooky numerical connection
between Buddy Holly, Michael Jordan ... and me
Ian
Daffern, Weekend Post
I woke up today at 10:13. Ten plus 13
is 23. This article is being published on Feb. 3 -- the second month
and third day of the year, or 2/3. Forty-eight years ago on this
day, a plane crash killed three legends of rock and roll: Buddy
Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Other culture heroes like
William Shakespeare, Johnny Carson and River Phoenix each had their
birth and death on the 23rd day of a month. Kurt Cobain died in the
year 1994 (1 + 9 + 9 +4 = 23!). You see where this kind of thinking
takes you?
Jim Carrey stars in a supernatural
thriller titled The Number 23, which opens on Feb. 23. In it, his
character receives a book titled, yes, The Number 23, and as a
result becomes aware of a lot of occurrences of 23 in his life. The
more he looks, the more he sees. Soon he is obsessed, soon after,
unhinged. The film is inspired by an actual occult belief in the
number 23, called the 23 Enigma. The more you learn about it, the
weirder it becomes.
This is a primer on the number 23,
itself a prime number, a number divisible without a remainder by
only itself and the number 1. The earth's axis is on a 23-degree
tilt. Two divided by three gives you .666 repeating, which rounded
off early gives you the Number of the Beast. Three divided by two
gives you 1.5 which gives you ? nothing exactly. But wait, there's
more!..

WXII12.COM
Are the makings of a Sci-Fi movie
happening in the Piedmont-Triad?
There have been strange reports about
flying objects in the skies -- and some people think they're UFOs.
WXII 12's Nicole Ducouer spoke to a
Kernersville man who said he captured an object on his cell phone.
Jamarus Crews
said he was sitting in his Farmwood Garden Apartment when he saw
something in the sky. It had lots of lights and made no noise, he
said. Charles Miller of
Charlotte said he also caught an image of an object.
"From the first
time I saw it until it was gone, it was 45 seconds and it crossed
the entire sky," he told CNN...

Hole in the Ice
Fuels Speculation About UFOs
Iol
Riga - A hole in a frozen pond in
northern Latvia achieved unexpected notoriety on Wednesday as
rumours began circulating that it was created by an object falling
from outer space.
"We've been collecting information on the story all day, and we'll
definitely report it in the morning," Inguna Plume, editor of local
newspaper Ziemellatvija, told reporters.
The "unusually large hole" appeared in the ice of a frozen pond near
the northern Latvian village of Karki in early February, the Leta
news agency wrote. Despite sub-zero temperatures, the hole
reportedly did not freeze over for two days...

UFO Sighting Over
Islington
Islington Gazette
DOZENS of
mysterious lights were spotted hovering in the sky above Archway -
spreading panic among residents below.
Unidentified flying orange objects stopped traffic and left
residents staring skyward in disbelief at around 5.30pm on Thursday.
Islington police received four calls within a matter of minutes.
Witness Alix McAlister, 34, a market stall trader from Bredgar Road,
Archway, said: "I just picked up my son from nursery in Bredgar
Road. I had just come out of the door when I noticed what was going
on in the sky.
"There were a group of them - 10 to 15 of them moving together. My
first impression was that they reminded me of a squadron of
aeroplanes in formation. But they didn't have a proper formation and
they were all moving at the same speed...

Nessie's English Cousin
From the Evening Standard, London
It is little more than a dark smudge
near the surface of a lake - but it could still signify the birth of
a new legend.
For this shadowy image is causing more
than a ripple of interest among monster aficionados.
And to the man who took it, the
picture is proof that something strange lurks in the waters of
Windermere...
